Introducing White, Blue, Yellow, and Clouds. WBY&C mastermind Matt Bauder presents this stunner of a debut album of doo-wop and soul songs. Think late '50s Flamingos, early '60s Sam Cooke, and a steady dose of proto-rock & roll. Though these classics are WBY&C's inspirations, their own sound is not retro, but feels completely fresh and original emdash; unlike anything else being played today. Complete with a horn and string section Phil Spector would love, if he weren't otherwise occupied.
In addition to Bauder's wonderfully shaky vocals, the record features brilliant performances from several guests. Saturday Looks Good To Me's Fred Thomas (a "His Name Is Alive" collaborator) contributes guitar and "tic-tac"baritone, and produced the basic tracks. Other notable credits include Jason Ajemian, Dan St. Clair, Aaron Siegel, Robbie Lee, Peter Evans, Jessica Pavone and more.... about as many musicians as you could possibly cram into Studio C on a hot Monday night.
Introducing is a remarkable record. Its appeal crosses so many boundaries that we truly haven't met anyone it didn't bring a smile to.
